1 million views on Threads in 30 days
I just hit 1 million views on Threads in 30 days.
That’s from Sep 28 to Oct 27. I only got more active on Threads recently. Before that I was mostly on X.

Here’s what worked, and what I think it says about Threads.
Threads actually shows new accounts to people
This is the biggest difference.
On X, my feed is always the same accounts. The big ones keep getting bigger, and a new voice basically shouts into the void.
Threads is different. It pushes your posts to people who don’t follow you yet. If a post gets early engagement, it just keeps going.
I saw the same thing in my AI agent social media experiment. A brand new anonymous account got almost 120K views on Threads in its first week. X and Instagram gave it nothing.
Two posts did most of the work
Honestly, most of the 1M came from just two posts.
1. A one-line joke about Indonesia’s air (537K views)
If demons checked Earth’s carbon monoxide map today, they’d think hell just opened a branch in Indonesia.
That’s it. One sentence and the carbon monoxide map.
It got 36K likes, 5.4K reposts, and a bunch of people started copying the line in their own posts. The replies turned into a meme thread on their own.
2. A video explaining the MSCI situation (310K views)
Indonesia’s stock market might get pulled out of all of MSCI’s combined indexes and become “standalone”. Most people heard the news but didn’t really get what it means.
So I made a short video explaining how it happened and why it matters for normal people, even if you don’t own a single stock.
The interesting part: it got 5.9K shares, more than its 5.7K likes. People weren’t just liking it, they were sending it to their friends and family.
It got way fewer likes than the joke. But honestly, I’m much happier with this one.
The comments were full of people saying it finally made sense to them. That feels a lot better than a viral one-liner.
What I learned
Indonesia is a topic that travels. Both posts are about something happening in Indonesia right now. People here care, and they want to talk about it.
Short and funny beats long and smart, for reach. The one-liner got way more views than the explainer.
But explainers get shared. If something is confusing and scary, like the MSCI news, a simple explanation is something people forward to others. That’s a different kind of value.
Post when it’s happening. Both posts rode a news moment. A day later, they probably wouldn’t have done the same.
It’s still hit-or-miss. Most of my other posts got normal numbers. Two posts did most of the work. That’s just how it is.
What’s next
I’ll keep posting about AI, Indonesia, tech, and startups.
I’m also doing a lot of AI experiments right now and writing up the workflows for free at ai.terrydjony.com. If that’s your thing, come say hi on Threads.
